AtoZ 2018 – P is for Patrolling by Nightrizer

We must stay vigilant if we’re going to finish the April AtoZ Challenge 2018!  So up next is Patrolling by American deviantartist Katie, posting as Nightrizer.

This piece was a commission of a character of one of Katie’s fans, done in the style of a YA book series called Wings of Fire by Venezuelan-American author Tui T. Sutherland.  I love the pose, and the detail of the sparkles in the wing membranes!  I can’t really tell from this picture if these dragons have four or six limbs, and while I usually prefer the latter, I think these wings are amazing no matter what!

I don’t know how I missed this Wings of Fire series, which started publishing in 2012 and has more than 15 books already!  On first blush, the story reminded me of the Warriors cat books series by Erin Hunter that I loved so much — the main characters are dragons in Wings, and cats in Warriors! And it turns out, I wasn’t imagining things — Erin Hunter is actually the pseudonym for a bunch of different writers that contributed to the Warriors series, and one of them is Tui Sutherland!

I’d love to go into both series more, because I’m a little floored by this Erin Hunter news, but AtoZ is not the time!  If you want to see more artwork that will floor you, check out Nightrizer‘s amazing gallery, follow her on Tumblr, and check out her YouTube channel for more.

I’m keeping it simple this year with my theme of “Odds and Ends Dragons” — amazing artwork by artists I’ve come across in past searches, but wasn’t able to find a spot for at the time.  Read more at my Theme Post.

All of these AtoZ posts should appear around 9:05 AM CT (-5 GMT) each day Monday through Saturday.  For even more dragons, check out my 2016 and 2017 posts!

Thanks for reading, take care, and stay creative!
